Testing New Pump Insulation with a Megohmmeter
How can you check the insulation condition of a new submersible pump before installation and operation?
In this video, HCP PUMP demonstrates how to use a megohmmeter (insulation resistance tester) to check the insulation resistance of a new submersible pump.
From checking the tester and confirming test lead continuity to measuring the insulation resistance between the pump power cable and grounding wire, this video covers the key inspection steps and how to interpret the readings before installation.
The measurement is performed using the 500 V range, with an insulation resistance of above 100 MΩ (megohms) used as the acceptance criterion for the new pump in this demonstration.
Checking the insulation resistance before installation helps confirm the pump’s insulation condition and ensures that the equipment is ready for operation.
※ The test must be performed while the equipment is not energized. A qualified technician should carry out the inspection in accordance with the pump specifications, manufacturer requirements, and operating instructions of the test instrument.
